Have you ever taken a themed trip? More specifically, a music trip? A favorite trip among our clients is a music tour we do through Europe. It takes travelers behind the scenes of their favorite musicians, while also giving them opportunities to hear the live music of that destination. Since Europe has produced such great musicians, it’s no surprise that it’s one of the best places in the world for taking a themed music trip. Below we’ve put together a few of the top music destinations in Europe.
Paris, France. While Paris often brings thoughts of romance and food, it’s also one of the top music destinations in Europe. There has to be a backdrop to set that romantic tone. One of the highlights of the music scene in Paris is the venues, which are worth the trip alone. One of the most notable venues is La Cigale, which has hosted some of the world’s most renowned musicians. The venue has a long history that dates back to the 1800s.
Vienna, Austria. Vienna is one of my favorite music destinations. Many notable musicians were born in Vienna, including Franz Schubert and Arnold Schönberg. Many Vienna venues feature shows that are geared exclusively for travelers to highlight the history of music in Austria. This includes works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was born in Austria. Vienna features numerous opera houses, all of which are worth a visit for their beautiful exteriors, interior décor, and architecture.
Glasgow, Scotland. Glasgow may be the destination you’re most surprised by. The fact is that in recent years, Glasgow has quietly established itself as one of the top music destinations in the world. Many young artists have first gotten their start in Glasgow. What’s different about Glasgow is that many of the venues aren’t in the form of large auditoriums or opera houses, but rather much smaller venues, such as pubs. Glasgow is a better choice for travelers who are interested in a more contemporary music scene, as it doesn’t have the same history as destinations like Vienna. In 2008 it was given the distinction of a UNESCO City of Music.
London, England. London is another Europe music destination that is known more for its music scene of the last 100 years. There are many London landmarks you’ve probably seen in popular culture, such as Abbey Road, which was made popular after The Beatles album of the same name. Nonetheless, with so many great music halls and auditoriums, you’ll find performances taking place across the city that highlight the works of performers like Mozart and Beethoven.
Prague, Czech Republic. As if you needed another reason to visit Prague. Prague is another destination that has quietly made a name for itself in music. You’ll find influences of classical music throughout the city, including the Czech Museum of Music, which features over 700,000 items that document the history of music. Prague’s musical history and culture all comes together in the spring at the Prague Spring International Music Festival, which has been taking place for nearly 70 years and showcases the Czech Republic’s best musicians.
