With the holidays having come and gone, it’s time to start looking toward the next celebration that makes for a good time of year to travel: Valentine’s Day. While this time of year often brings to mind images of roses, chocolates, and fine dining, there are few gifts that compare with a romantic getaway. While you may have some destinations nearby that you have in mind, there are some destinations around the world that simply up the ante come Valentine’s Day. Today we highlight a few of the best destinations to visit for a romantic getaway this February.

Paris, France. Often referred to as the “City of Love”, it’s hard to talk about Valentine’s Day destinations and not talk about Paris. There are so many iconic romantic things to do in Paris, from floating down the River Seine to sitting outdoors in a cafe sipping coffee and eating a croissant to walking hand-in-hand down the Champs-Élysées. Give yourself at least a day, if not longer, to either take the train or rent a car and get out of the city to experience the backcountry and vineyards beyond the city limits of Paris.

Cape Town, South Africa. I could have easily put the entire country of South Africa on here, but since it’s so large, I had to narrow it down to Cape Town. South Africa is quickly establishing itself as one of the premier destinations in the world because of its many offerings. While you probably think about safaris when you think of South Africa, don’t skip over the growing dining and wine scene. Just out from Cape Town in the Cape Winelands lie some of the best vineyards in the world. Consider splitting your trip between the beaches of Cape Town and then amidst the rolling hills and serenity of the Cape Winelands.

Tuscany, Italy. Like Paris, Tuscany is another iconic and romantic destination to spend Valentine’s Day. If you or your partner love Italian food, then you’re in the right place. Along with a wine and cheese tour, consider scheduling a cooking class so you can take some of the trip back home with you. However, to really impress your significant other, begin your day with a champagne breakfast and hot air balloon ride over Tuscany. Spend your afternoon with a visit to any one of the luxury spas in Tuscany before ending your day at one of Tuscany’s famous authentic Italian restaurants.

Hawaii, U.S. We couldn’t talk romantic places to travel and not mention any warm destinations. With such a comfortable climate year-round, Hawaii makes for a nice break from the cooler weather, transporting travelers to paradise. However, you won’t be the only one escaping winter for Hawaii for Valentine’s Day. For a more intimate experience, spend most of your time on Molokai, which won’t be as crowded as some of the other islands.

Costa Rica. With so many beautiful and intimate parts of the country, it was too hard to narrow down Costa Rica to one city. Similar to Hawaii, you can expect beautiful, warm weather this time of year since it’s Costa Rica’s dry season. For those that like a little romance with your adventure, then this is the destination for you. Spend your afternoons outdoors, such as zip lining through cloud forests or exploring Arenal Volcano before coming back to your hotel and relaxing around the pool or in the spa.
